I've
always enjoyed working in miniature, from birds and fish to model
rail roading. Many collectors prefer a finely detailed miniature
to a full sized carving, especially when space is an issue. I can
finish a miniature in a fraction of the time, and get the same satisfaction
as having completed a full size piece.
I find carving and painting these size pieces to be more challenging.
The "trick" is to know how much detail that can be done
well. You'll find that all of my miniatures are done very well.
Well enough to have won several ribbons, including a First Place
bench division for a set of miniature New England antique merganser
decoys at the Ward World Competition held each Spring in Ocean City,
Maryland. |
